Support group

support and hope within our support group for people struggling with addiction

On the journey toward recovery, the path is rarely a straight line. It is marked by hills and valleys, by triumphs and setbacks. Knowing the challenge that alcoholism represents not only on an individual level, but also for families and communities, we are launching a new support group aimed at cultivating healing, strengthening resilience, and restoring life.

Understanding alcoholism

Alcoholism, or persistent alcohol abuse, is a condition characterized by a reduced ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health consequences. It is a chronic, progressive disease that can cause significant mental and physical health problems. These include liver disease, cardiovascular problems, mental health disorders, and an increased risk of cancer. The psychological impact is just as serious, often affecting a person’s ability to maintain stable relationships, fulfill work commitments, and manage everyday responsibilities effectively.

Moreover, alcoholism does not affect only the person who drinks; it also has a powerful impact on families and communities, generating problems such as domestic violence, financial difficulties, and widespread social harm.

Why a support group?

Support groups have long been essential in the recovery process, offering a platform for sharing experiences and encouraging one another. They harness the power of collective experience, empathy, and understanding — essential elements that often make the difference between struggling and flourishing on the road to recovery.

The support group is designed to offer:

Community. You are not alone on this journey. Our group is a sanctuary where people can come together, share their stories, and know that they are part of a community that understands and supports them without judgment.

Support. In every meeting, we offer a structured yet compassionate environment where members can explore their struggles with alcohol, discuss their fears and achievements, and receive support from people who truly understand the fight against addiction.

Education. From understanding the roots of addiction to learning practical coping strategies, the sessions are focused on empowering members with knowledge and tools that can help them in the recovery process.

Hope. By witnessing and celebrating each person’s progress, group members see real examples of recovery and renewal. Hope is the vital center of motivation, and our group nurtures this essential resource.

What do you gain by participating?

Understanding and managing cravings. You learn strategies for managing cravings and triggers in a supportive setting, reducing the likelihood of relapse.

Improved relationships. Guided by people who understand the complexity of this process, you learn how to repair and rebuild relationships damaged by the impact of alcoholism.

Healthier coping mechanisms. You replace unhealthy behaviors with healthier ones, learning from people who have walked the same road and can share practical advice.

Greater understanding and self-knowledge. We address the psychological and emotional aspects of alcoholism, increasing self-awareness and supporting long-term abstinence.

De ce nu poți controla consumul celuilalt

Why you can’t control someone else’s drinking

Behind the desire to “save” the addict is a cocktail of painful feelings and emotions: fear of losing, shame, guilt, and helplessness. The codependent doesn’t actually control anyone; they’re just trying to calm their own panic. They cling to the idea that if they do enough, if they speak convincingly enough, if they forgive again and again, then the addict will stop. But this belief is a trap. Because you can’t control the other person’s consumption.
